Prior to bringing a kitten home

What Your Kitten Comes Home With

Every kitten from Stayton Ranch and Cattery goes home with a thoughtful set of essentials to support a smooth and gentle transition into their new family. This includes their health records, vaccination history, and any applicable registration documents. We also send home a small amount of the Hill’s Science Diet kitten food they have been eating here at the ranch so you can transition them gradually to the food you prefer. Your kitten will also bring a comfort item with familiar scents from their nursery to help them feel secure during their first days at home. Our goal is to make their arrival as calm, safe, and comfortable as possible.

Kitten Care Essentials

Before bringing your kitten home, it is important to have the basics prepared. This includes high quality kitten food, fresh water bowls, a litter box with appropriate litter, a comfortable bed, and safe toys for enrichment. Having these essentials ready creates a calm and welcoming environment that helps your kitten build confidence as they explore and adjust to their new home.

Nice Extras Your Kitten May Enjoy

While not required, some items can make your kitten’s transition even smoother. Soft blankets, scratching posts, window perches, and interactive toys can provide comfort and mental stimulation. Many kittens also enjoy calming diffusers, grooming tools, or cozy hideaways that give them a sense of security. These extras are simple ways to enrich their environment and support a happy, well adjusted start.

Getting Ready for Your Kitten

Preparing for your kitten’s arrival helps create a smooth and stress free transition for both of you. This is the time to gather supplies, kitten proof your home, and read through our Care and Needs guide. Understanding your kitten’s routine, diet, and comfort items in advance will help you feel confident and ready to welcome your new family member.

Welcome Home Day

Getting Ready for Your Kitten

Getting Ready for Your Kitten

Your kitten’s first moments in your home set the tone for a positive start. Homecoming is an exciting day, but it can also feel overwhelming for a young animal. Offer a quiet space, show them their litter box and food area, and let them explore at their own pace. Gentle encouragement, patience, and calm voices help them settle in and begin forming trust.

First Night Together

Getting Ready for Your Kitten

Settling In: Three Month Milestone

The first night can be a little emotional for your kitten as they adjust to new surroundings. It is normal for them to cry or seek reassurance. Provide a warm, cozy sleeping area and keep their essentials close by. Soft lighting, familiar scents, and gentle interaction will help them feel safe as they begin bonding with you.

By this stage your kitten is settling into routines, showing more personality, and developing strong connections with your family. This is a great time to focus on enrichment, interactive play, grooming habits, and continued socialization. Regular positive interaction helps shape a confident, well adjusted adult cat.

Growing Up: Six Month Milestone

Growing Up: Six Month Milestone

At six months your kitten is entering adolescence and may become more active, curious, and energetic. This is a perfect time to refine training, maintain consistent routines, and schedule important veterinary checkups if needed. Their bond with you is stronger now, and ongoing engagement supports healthy development.
